Scaling up financing for sustainable food systems

According to the needs and context of the Agri-PDBs, the Platform aims to help them to scale up financing to deliver green and inclusive food systems, revisit their business model and governance structure, build capacity, support the process of digitization, and develop tools for measuring risks, Environmental and Social impact, and Monitoring & evaluation.

The 3 pillars of the platform

The Platform activities will be organized around three pillars:

  • Learning and Knowledge Management
  • Capacity building and innovation
  • Advocacy and awareness raising

Learning and Knowledge Management

  • Dissemination of knowledge products (written or video) via the Platform website and partner regional networks
  • Promoting peer-to-peer exchange of knowledge
  • Research conducted by the platform secretariat
  • Exchange visits between PDBs to share knowledge and experiences
  • Generation of actionable information on proven and effective models for green and inclusive food systems

Capacity building and innovation

  • Assisting PDBs in designing and implementing tools and products that address their challenges
  • Facilitating peer-to-peer TA
  • Organizing training and TA by external consultants
  • Replicate and scale proven and effective models for green and inclusive food systems
  • Coordinate support for monitoring and coaching of PDB staff.

Advocacy and awareness raising

  • Support green and inclusive food systems in PDBs with funding and policies
  • Publish updates on the work of the platform working groups and research, on its website
  • Facilitation of partnerships between PDBs within the networks so that a PDB with a successful model can support others to replicate it
  • Organization of TA from external consultants whose expertise cannot be found within the networks

Platform’s Collaborative Initiatives

Aiming to support PDBs in driving sustainable agricultural transformation and advancing green finance to address food insecurity, the Platform has launched a series of core services across diverse areas. These services include organizing working groups and webinars, conducting trainings and hands-on coaching for banks, carrying out country missions, and facilitating peer-to-peer exchanges among institutions. Key thematic areas of work include climate change, agroecology, rural financial inclusion, green finance, and nutrition.

As of September 2025, working groups have been established on three priority themes: climate change, agroecology, and rural financial inclusion. Webinars cover a broad range of topics, such as sustainable bonds and guarantees, food security, and, more recently, nutrition.

The Platform also engages actively in high-level events, bringing together PDBs and global partners to exchange knowledge and best practices, discuss shared challenges, and advocate for collective action in support of the SDGs. Key events include the Finance in Common Summit, COP, and the Fourth International Conference on Financing for Development (FfD4), among others.

To better understand the needs of banks, missions have been carried out with five institutions: MAIIC (Malawi), BNDA (Mali), LBA (Senegal), CDC (Benin), and CAM (Morocco).
