The Agri-PDB Platform is excited to host a webinar on “Nutrition-Sensitive Investments in Agriculture” in collaboration with the World Food Program (WFP), Agence Française de Développement (AFD), and Results for Development (R4D). This event will explore how Public Development Banks (PDBs) can refine their funding strategies to support better nutrition outcomes and sustainable development.

Date: 15 January 2025
Time: 15:30 – 16:30 CET
Location: Zoom

Malnutrition is a major barrier to achieving SDG 2 (Zero Hunger) and undermines health, human capital, and economic growth. For every US$1 invested in undernutrition, returns can reach up to US$23, with school feeding programs offering US$9 to US$27 per dollar. Despite these benefits, a significant financing gap remains. The World Bank’s 2024 Global Investment Framework for Nutrition estimates an additional US$128 billion is needed to scale evidence-based interventions over the next decade, with low- and lower-middle-income countries requiring 77% of this funding. Public Development Banks (PDBs) play a critical role in closing this gap by fostering partnerships with governments, donors, and the private sector to mobilize resources and achieve sustainable nutrition outcomes.

This webinar will feature two distinguished speakers with extensive experience in nutrition-sensitive initiatives:

  • Mary D’Alimonte From Results for Development (R4D) will discuss the role of Public Development Banks (PDBs) in nutrition investments, drawing on insights from the OECD nutrition policy marker to illustrate how agricultural investments can effectively integrate nutrition.
  • Nora Praher, from the World Food Program (WFP), will present a case study on WFP Cameroon’s homegrown school feeding program, linked to the blended finance initiative ‘SheCan.’
  • Dr. A.V. Bhavani Shankar, from National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD), will share valuable insights into the role of PDBs in implementing a National Strategy for Nutrition. Dr. Bhavani Shankar will highlight NABARD’s approach to integrating nutrition into PDB strategies, enhancing food security, and supporting national nutrition goals.

Exciting insights from additional speakers are also awaiting you, making this session a must-attend for anyone interested in nutrition-sensitive investments.

This session will provide an in-depth look at how PDBs can optimize agricultural investments, foster impactful partnerships, and measure outcomes effectively.
